Application TIM-Tester – Metal sheets with adhesive layer

Thermal conductivity and Thermal impedance

The sample under investigation comprises multiple layers of metal sheets separated by an insulating adhesive layer. This configuration finds application in the realm of electric vehicle development. The measurement’s primary objective was to assess how contact pressure affects the results.

App. Nr. 02-008-004 TIM-Tester – Metal sheets with adhesive layer – Thermal conductivity, Thermal Impedance

The plot illustrates the thermal impedance as a function of the thickness of the various stacked metal sheets. The measurements were conducted at both room temperature and 100°C, with contact pressures of 0.1 MPa and 1 MPa applied to the sample. As is customary, the thermal conductivity is determined by taking the reciprocal of the slope of the linear fit, while the contact resistance is derived from the intersection with the y-axis.
